Arsenal Lose Again!!!

February 7th, 2010

Oh! the pain, the pain, Arsenal fell once again to Chelsea 2-0 and dropped 9 points off the league championship. They have lost to both teams ahead of them, their only chance now is if those two teams start to lose games. Not too likely!!! I better go have a glass of Blackbush to calm my nerves.

Another Snow Storm

January 29th, 2010

Not much to do today we are snowed in, schools are closed as are many businesses. We are expecting approximately 30 centimeters of snow with high winds causing drifts. You probably can’t see me through the window but I’m cosy and warm inside sitting at the computer

The Tram & The Van

January 26th, 2010

Continuing my early blog about electric vehicles in Belfast I have posted a picture of a tram and a bread van (both electric). The question is! who is passing who?? is the tram overtaking the van or is the van overtaking the tram????? My father began working for McWatters Bakery after release from the army at the end of the 1st World War. He remained working there until his death in May of 1960.

Electric Vehicles-Hybrids

January 26th, 2010

I remember growing up in Belfast shortly after the 2nd WW. In the city we had electric vehicles everywhere!!The city bakeries delivered fresh bread and pastries every day throughout Belfast using electric vans. Milk was delivered every day using electric milk floats, we left our empty bottles at the door step and the milkman replaced them with full bottles. When going to work or school I’d hopped on public transport. Electric trams running the rails all over the city. Oh! I admit they were a bit slow and a bit noisy, but then life was a bit slower too. Where trams couldn’t go we had trolley buses, yes electric but they didn’t need rails. The only diesel or gas transport were country buses that travelled outside the city limits. Why even in 1955 I still recall horse and cart vehicles delivering coal and other goods. It seems we lost or didn’t realize the advantage of using those old electric vehicles. Today there seems to be a race to produce the best in electric transportation! Such as the latest Hybrids or GM’s acclaimed Volt???? I tend to wonder if the horse and cart may yet reappear? It begs the question ‘if we don’t learn from history we are doomed to repeat it’
That’s my rant for the day

Harper Must Go!!!

January 25th, 2010

Over the weekend people protested throughout Canada, the proroguing of government. Harper our prime Minister (would like to be President) closed down the government until 2nd March. He believes we Canadians are either too stupid or too disinterested to notice. Bad mistake thinking Canadians are sleepy when it comes to politics we are not so easily fooled Mr Harper. Your time is coming! we have had enough of your style government, You were elected to run this great country not prorogue and dodge difficult opposition questions. Your minister Shea received a pie in the face, that should tell you something. Canadians are angry. Get back to work or step down. Actually I’d prefer the latter!!!

Sorry folks I’m fed up with this government, and Arsenal losing in the 5th round of the FA Cup on Sunday
didn’t help!!
That’s all for keep reading. Cheers

Birthday Boy!

January 15th, 2010

Fifty years ago today I was on the night train bound for Edinburgh Scotland to meet a very beautiful young lady. It was the occasion of my 21st birthday, the day I came of age. The day I received the key to the door and was considered an adult!! Seems along time ago now as I celebrate my 71st sitting at home in Ebenezer PEI.
